Somatic experience therapy

Somatic Experience Therapy

Somatic Experience (SE), developed by Dr. Peter Levine, is a type of somatic therapy that works on nervous system regulation when treating traumatic events and its symptoms. Dr. Levine believes that traumatic events may create undischarged energy in one’s nervous system, and only after our bodies are able to discharged such energy, individuals can reintegrate trauma.

SE works in the patient’s own pace and expands one’s resilience; it does not force individuals to relive trauma. SE works with one’s “felt sense”, allowing individuals to be more aware of body sensations, images, emotions and is less focus on the content of trauma or memories. By working within the patient’s own rhythm, a sense of agency is regained better preparing individuals to be in touch with contents that are more activating and challenging.

SE helps restore one’s nervous system intrinsic waves of activation/deactivation (sympathetic/parasympathetic activation). Moreover, during SE work, patients rediscover their own internal resources and healing ability, which is extremely empowering.

Craniosacral Techniques

Craniosacral Therapy, developed by Dr. John E. Upledger, utilizes a very light and gentle touch  in order to relieve tension along one’s spinal cord and brain restoring a more regulated flow of cerebrospinal fluid (the fluid that bathes and nourishes our brain and spinal cord) within one’s central nervous system. This allows for a global regulatory effect on one’s body as a whole.

By releasing tension that directly affects your central nervous system, your body will be able to improve its own healing abilities and rid itself of a host of symptoms and pain you may be experiencing.
